All of the large companies on the stock exchanges have a Board of Directors and skilled professionals on retainer to help with the business decisions that manage the company.  Small business people can’t afford this luxury.

Get to know these people, let them get to know you.  Don’t wait until you need them, take them out to lunch and discuss your business, what you want to do down the road.  It is a lot easier for them to help you when you need them if they know you ahead of time.  These people want you to succeed, get and cherish their advice – you cannot afford not to!
